(Chrome OS) How do I use the GlobalProtect VPN?

Using the GlobalProtect VPN on Chrome OS is pretty easy! This knowledge base article will walk you through getting GlobalProtect installed and set up to access WSU's VPN.

Getting GlobalProtect installed on Chrome OS

The first step is to navigate to the download page for GlobalProtect in the Chrome Web Store:

Note: While this link may work outside of Chrome OS, there are better GlobalProtect clients to use for other operating systems.

You should see a page like the one below. Click the Add to Chrome button to add this app to Chrome OS.

Next, click the Add app button in the dialog box that appears.

Configuring GlobalProtect to connect to WSU

Now that GlobalProtect is installed, the next step is to configure GlobalProtect with settings to access WSU's VPN.

From your Chrome OS desktop, select the time (in the bottom right of your screen), then select VPN from the menu that appears

Select the + icon from the GlobalProtect section of the Private network menu

That will open the GlobalProtect connection configuration screen, which looks like this:

Next, type vpn.wsu.edu in the "Portal" field, and select Add Connection.

Once you've entered the portal name and slected Add Connection, you will a screen like this:

Next, select the time (in the bottom right of your screen) again, then select VPN from the menu that appears.

Now select vpn.wsu.edu under the GlobalProtect header in the Private network menu.

In the dialog box that appears, fill out the Username and Password fields. Use your WSU NID info here.

If your NID was butch.cougar, it would look like this:

Select Connect, and you should see a screen that looks similar to this:

Congrats, You've successfully connected to the WSU GlobalProtect VPN!
